Association Information
Association Activity : The AFBNA evaluates and researches programs to benefit Alberta food banks. These programs are initiated and supported by the AFBNA to help its members in food and fundraising, and awareness efforts.

Members receive newsletters and are kept infomred of AFBNA developments.

The AFBNA provides a wealth of resource material and acts as a communications pipeline for its members so that food banks can function efficiently and share ideas.

The AFBNA promotes Alberta food banks on a provincial level.

The AFBNA pays for the National Food Sharing System (NFSS) pallet fees for all Alberta food banks.

More than 70 Alberta communities currently have food banks. Each month these organizations provide food to more than 30,000 Albertans. The most common service they offer is providing hampers to disadvantaged individuals and families. Many food banks distribute food to other non-profit groups in their area. Food banks also work together to lobby governement and advocate for change.

The Alberta Food Bank Network Association (AFBNA) was incorporated on March 19, 1998 because the founders of this organization believe:

* Food banks should support each other in achieving their objectives.
* Communication among food banks is mutually beneficial.
* Food banks working together will enhance the well being of communities throughout Alberta.
* Creating public awareness and providing education concerning hunger and poverty are important elements of food bank activities.
