Association Information
Association Activity : During each of the past 19 years, the members of ATSSA have honored and recognized an outstanding public official who has made extraordinary and significant contributions to the safety of our nation's roadways with the prestigious "ATSSA National Safety Award." To be eligible for the award, a person must be employed by a government agency, or have retired from a government agency within two years of the nomination deadline, and must be nominated by an ATSSA member. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2008 award. Nominations must be submitted to ATSSA by Monday, Sept. 8.

During the upcoming ATSSA Midyear Meeting in Washington, D.C., the ATSSA Safety and Public Awareness Committee will review all of the nominations and narrow the list down to three. The ATSSA Board of Directors will then make a final selection from those three nominees. The award will be presented during ATSSA's 39th Annual Convention and Traffic Expo in San Jose, Calif.

The award recipient will receive a handsome plaque and an all-expense paid trip to the convention. This is your opportunity to recognize an outstanding public official who has made a significant contribution to roadway safety.

Please take a moment to download and submit your nomination and include as much detail as possible focusing on the specific actions taken by the nominee that resulted in improved roadway safety. Dates of those actions and empirical results are helpful as well. Remember, each ATSSA member may make only one nomination per year. Download the nomination form by clicking on the URL below this paragraph titled, "ATSSA 2008 National Safety Award Nomination Form." Complete the form and return it to Sandy Bryant via fax at (540) 368-1717 by close-of-business Monday, Sept. 8.

Several major events are planned in Washington, D.C. Sept. 17-20 for ATSSA members, including ATSSA's Leadership Program, legislative training and legislative visits, and the 2009 ATSSA Midyear Meeting. During this time, ATSSA members will have the opportunity to meet with their elected officials on Capitol Hill to discuss ATSSA's reauthorization policy - "Toward Zero Deaths" - as well as other key issues. Committees will meet during the Midyear Meeting, on Sept. 19. ATSSA members will be treated to a Washington Nationals/ San Diego Padres ballgame at the all-new, state-of-the-art Nationals Stadium. Click here to visit the event webpage for detailed schedules, registration, hotel information, and much more information on all of these events.
